Fellow “Wicked” fans, this one’s for you! 🙂
Completely unique and dramatic colors on this waterlily. The dark red streaks on a bronze background remind me a little of Harvey Koop (not offered this year). The plants are 6′ tall and vigorous, with awesome stems for cutting.
Note that most Hollyhill Wicked Witch plants will throw up the odd solid colored or even half solid, half variegated bloom. Occasionally, an entire plant will revert to solid dark red or bronze. I rogue out any plants which revert in my garden, and only sell tubers from plants which were variegated for me. However, variegation in dahlias is an unstable trait caused by transposons, or “jumping genes”, which shift around on the chromosome in unpredictable ways. If this happens in your garden, give it some time — the transposons may shift again and variegation return!
