We are a small farm, which means that many of our varieties have limited stock and will sell out quickly. This is inevitably going to cause some frustration and disappointment at checkout, and I am so sorry for that. Keep in mind that tubers you place in your cart are not “reserved” for you until checkout. If there is a particular variety you are desperate to acquire, I recommend putting it in your cart as soon as sales go live and checking out right away, then placing the rest of your order afterward. I offer combined shipping on multiple orders for a processing fee of $2 per order (to cover the extra labor time, printer ink, and PayPal transaction fees).
Every year, despite my best efforts, a few varieties succumb to storage issues. When this happens, I refund the customers who ordered those varieties and offer them first dibs on purchasing next season if I am able to rebuild my stock.
Please do not use a bot to place orders. This is a form of cheating and will result in your order being canceled if I find out. (Do not underestimate my ability to find out; I’m smarter than I look!)
I expect to be dividing tubers right up until shipping starts. This means there will be a last-minute variety drop wherein customers can add on to their existing orders. Subscribers to the email list will get a heads up before the new varieties are added.
When your order arrives, please open the box and inspect the tubers immediately. They are not meant to sit for extended periods in their packaging. Any issues with the condition of tubers on arrival must be reported within three days of receipt.
All tubers are guaranteed to be true to name and viable. They are NOT guaranteed to win any dahlia tuber beauty pageants (though the tubers you receive will be “prettier” than the ones I plant). Keep in mind that the tuber is a root; it lives a modest life underground. Its role is to grow a plant that makes beautiful flowers. Let’s leave the pageant circuit to said flowers! I mean, if the poor tuber had any reason to expect it would be hauled out of the ground and aesthetically critiqued today, I’m sure it would have gotten its hair done… 😉
I did not test for virus last year, but am diligent about sanitizing tools and culling symptomatic plants. All plants are cared for by hand, by me, and monitored carefully.
Shipping Info
This year all orders will ship between April 16th and May 1st. I am still working on a system to offer earlier shipping for warm climate growers and those taking cuttings, but it isn’t feasible this year. Local customers are welcome to pick up their orders at Seaview Farm Stand in Rockport free of charge on or after May 4th. If you have a Cape Ann zip code, my website will assume this is your plan and will not charge you for shipping. Those outside of Cape Ann who wish to pick up their order should include a note to that effect at checkout, and I will refund your shipping cost.
Your tubers will be shipped in USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes, which minimizes transit time and allows for package tracking. Shipping prices are based on how many tubers I can fit in each size of box. My fee structure maxes out at $32, so customers who order more than 35 tubers (ie multiple boxes worth) will be getting a break on the actual cost to ship.
1-2 tubers: $10.40 (small flat rate box)
3-18 tubers: $18.40 (medium flat rate box)
19-35 tubers: $24.75 (large flat rate box)
More than 35 tubers (multiple boxes): $32.00
I am happy to combine shipping on multiple orders going to the same address. Note that shipping refunds will be calculated and issued manually a week or two AFTER the shipping window this year, in order to get your tubers to you as quickly as possible. There is a $2 processing fee for each combined order.
The website may send you a “shipping label printed” notification up to a week before your package actually ships. This is because I print out the labels in a big batch, then spend the next week boxing up all those orders. Your tubers are supervised closely during this time; I promise I’m not taking them to bars and casinos or otherwise corrupting their tender morals.
